Volunteer

help us achieve gender balance

Join us in changing the face of the California Legislature.  We are always on the lookout for passionate volunteers. Interested? Let us know why and send a resume or LinkedIn link to [email protected].

Following is a list of our current Volunteer needs:

Candidate Recruiters: Can you help mine the motherlode of open seats ahead? Recruiters identify prospective candidates, research and vet them, then meet and gauge their interest. When a promising prospect is interested, recruiters explore with her what it means to be ‘ready” and what it takes to win. We’re looking for people who are committed to the cause and have campaign or political experience. Please see our recruiter job description to apply. 20 women legislators serving today were recruited by CTGCA. The next wave of superstar policymakers is out there, but we need you to help us find them.

Community Event Hosts: Help us get the word out about Close the Gap California and our mission by hosting an event in your community**. We are especially looking for opportunities in the Central Valley and Southern California. Hosting an event entails gathering a group of your friends and community members to learn more about our mission from a Close the Gap California representative. We are flexible to work with you on a format that works best for your community. Apply to be an event host today.
**Due to impacts from COVID-19, all events will be virtual until further notice.

Fundraising Collaborator: We’re looking for a volunteer with development experience. This position requires strong organization skills, a genuine appreciation of donors, and knowledge of Google Sheets and related computer programs (bonus points if you are familiar with EveryAction or other fundraising databases!). Learn about major donor development and assist with events, snail mail and crowdfunding. You will acquire the most valuable skill for anyone who wants to make their mark “behind the scenes” or out front as a candidate.

Requires ten flexible hours a week, and occasional calls with the best colleagues imaginable.

Progressive Alliance Liaison:  Can you help us stay in touch with our 30+ allied women’s political organizations and expand our network to include the larger progressive community? This position facilitates communication among a large network of organizations that share our goal of increasing the number of women in the Legislature. Pleasant but purposeful phone manner, strong organization, and interview skills are helpful in this position. An ability to work within a complex organization, collect, gather, share and disseminate useful information to proper parties is key. Some writing and web experience also helpful. If you want to see the inside of coalition politics, we are a good place to start!

Requires ten flexible hours a week, staff meetings 1x/week, and/or calls with the best colleagues imaginable.

Blogger: Interested in writing about issues women in California face? Consider writing for our Medium blog! Have a great idea you want us to consider? Pitch us the topic at [email protected].

Volunteer Coordinator: Recruit and engage with volunteers for events, field new volunteers and help them find the right place for them to contribute to the cause.

Video Editor: Edit short videos into mini clips for our social media channels. Add captions to video files.

Events Coordinator: Help with planning and logistics for speaker events, panel discussions, annual flagship luncheon, conventions, fundraisers.
