Education has always come first for Assemblywoman Archie-Hudson. While serving in the Assembly in the mid-1990s, she served as the Chair of the Committee on Higher Education, acting as a leading voice in opposition to Proposition 209 the state initiative seeking to end affirmative action in California public colleges and universities. She later became the first female president of Talladega College.
