Delaine Eastin is the first (and only) woman to be elected to the position of the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Prior, Delaine served four terms in the California State Assembly, where she chaired the Education Committee. She has served as a Regent of the University of California and a Trustee of the California State University system. Delaine was the first executive director of the National Institute for School Leadership and a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Educational Leadership at Mills College, where she directed the Center for Civic Engagement and Women’s Leadership. She currently is an executive consultant in education and public policy.
