Alex Gillis received her MS in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and her BS from Tufts, where she played on the women’s varsity soccer team. Having been awarded a full ROTC scholarship to attend Tufts, she was commissioned as a U.S. Air Force officer upon graduation and served five years in the Maine Air National Guard as a combat communications officer—the only female officer in a 300-person squadron.
A full-time mom after the birth of her third child, Alex has been active as a coach for numerous youth and high school sports teams, both recreational and competitive, in soccer and basketball, and for boys and girls. She has been involved with Girls on the Run as a coach for three years, chairperson and coach for the Los Altos School District Junior Olympics, a parent fundraising volunteer for the Los Altos Education Foundation, a parent high school fundraising chairperson for the Woodside Priory High School Annual Fund, and was recently a store manager at Lucy Activewear, a women’s apparel store specializing in yoga, gym, running, and adventure clothing.
Alex resides in Los Altos, where she is glad community involvement and education are high priorities. She has two college-aged children, both at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, and a daughter in high school. In her free time, Alex loves to hike and run on the beautiful trails of the Bay Area and along the coast.
