What You Need to Know
About Solving Southern California’s Critical Water Shortage and How the Coming Water Shortage Will Impact You!
You have likely read about, and perhaps scratched your head in confusion trying to understand, the wildly controversial new proposal to bring critically needed water to Southern California. The Southern California Metropolitan Water District and other groups have proposed one of the largest public works and environmental restoration projects ever undertaken in California. The project involves tunneling 35 miles under the Sacramento Delta to bring needed water to our area.
Learn about the competing political interests that have created extremely strange bedfellows: irrigation farmers, home and business owners in thirsty cities, environmental protection groups, and recreation interests. Southern California is dependent on more than 1000 miles of aqueducts to import water and we need much more water to keep pace with our population. With climate change adding to the problem, will the water continue to flow when you turn on your tap?
Our speaker is Kathleen Cole the Executive Legislative Representative for the Metropolitan Water District. She represents the Water District in its communications with the California Legislature and administrative agencies.
