Mount St. Mary’s College will host its 3rd annual Ready to Run™ non-partisan campaign training for women on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at our Chalon Campus in Los Angeles, and we would like invite you to support the event as a community partner—see attachment. As you know, there could not be a more urgent time for educating women on the essentials of campaigning, given that women’s representation in California and Los Angeles has declined over the past decade. The next state legislature will have the fewest number of women since 1998; which means a smaller pool of women to run for national races in the state.
Mount St. Mary’s is a women’s college in Los Angeles and one of the most diverse colleges in the nation. We are committed to promoting gender equality. Since our founding in 1925, we have challenged our students to strive for excellence both as scholars and contributors to a more just society. Most of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Community service is the hallmark of our education and we graduate engaged and active global citizens leading positive social change.
The Ready to Ready to Run™ Program is a non-partisan national network of women’s campaign training programs created by the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. The curriculum covers areas where research shows women need additional training: fundraising, positioning oneself for elected office, navigating the political party structure, media training, the nuts and bolts of organizing a campaign, mobilizing voters, and crafting a message. I’ve also attached the schedule for the day.
